Vance describes Iran’s leadership as ‘very confused’, says deal possible US Vice President JD Vance said there is still scope for a deal with Iran if its leaders honour their commitments to Washington, while describing Tehran’s political decision-making system as “very confused”. In an interview with journalist Vince Coglianese, Vance said President Donald Trump had made clear that “there is a universe where we can strike a deal with Iran, but that requires the Iranians to behave”. He said Washington’s approach would be based on Iranian actions rather than statements. Vance said Iran’s leadership involved “a number of different constituencies”, including hardliners, conservatives, moderates and clerics. He also said Iran’s new supreme leader was “very detached” and not involved in day-to-day decision-making or public discussions about negotiations.
