Bulgaria’s Presidential Election to Feature 27 Candidate Pairs

Twenty-seven presidential and vice-presidential candidate pairs will contest Bulgaria’s October 25 election, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Stoyanka Balova-Tsvetkova said on Tuesday. The candidates were nominated by 20 initiative committees and seven parties. The final number was confirmed after the September 27 deadline for checks on candidate eligibility and supporting signatures. Speaking at a briefing, Balova-Tsvetkova said Tuesday was the deadline for submitting online applications to vote abroad. Those who miss the deadline may still vote at a polling station abroad on election day after completing the required declaration, she added. By Tuesday, more than 35,500 applications had been submitted from 72 countries. The CEC is due to determine overseas polling locations and the number of stations at each location by October 3. Following a Foreign Ministry review, additional stations may be established in qualifying locations with at least 40 valid applications. Bulga
