September 29, 1996: Princess Sayako of Japan Arrives at Bulgarian Government's Invitation

On September 29, 1996, at the invitation of the Bulgarian Government, Japanese Princess Sayako arrived in Sofia. Her visit continued until October 3, 1996. During her stay, she met with President Zhelyu Zhelev, held talks with Prime Minister Zhan Videnov, opened the Days of Japanese Culture in Bulgaria, and visited Veliko Tarnovo and Rila Monastery. In Sofia, she visited the National Historical Museum, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Centre and the Department of Japanese Studies at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
