Kane Parsons Resists ‘Backrooms’ As Horror; Label Was Marketing’s “Path Of Least Resistance,” Expects More Creative Control Going Forward

“ Backrooms ” was supposed to give us a new horror auteur, but the filmmaker suggests that might be our own projection, and he may give us something different or more nuanced, as the project was heavily influenced by “creepypasta” horror online content and the use of liminal space as a setting. It’s possible Kane Parsons sees it as more of a psychological drama or psychological horror, but sorry buddy, to a lot of people, that’s still horror if it unnerves, chills, and scares us, even if it’s not at all traditional horror scares.
