Pioneering broadcaster, singer Angela Stribling dead at 58

The D.C. region is mourning the loss of longtime broadcaster, singer and television host Angela Stribling, who has died at 58. Stribling’s gifted voice warmed the hearts of many in the area and across the nation for decades. Stribling was the first woman to host WHUR’s original Quiet Storm. She was also a pioneering personality at BET. Stribling was an accomplished jazz vocalist who performed around the world, sharing the stage with legends including Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan. Her colleagues remembered her for her grace, infectious laugh, and willingness to encourage others. Ken Washington, Stribling’s husband, released a statement saying his beloved wife passed away peacefully at home Saturday after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. Washington and Stribling’s sister, Darlene, were by her side. He added, “A celebration of life will take place in D.C. at a later date. Angela Stribling was 58 years old.
