POLITICS Speaking on bTV's morning show, former interior minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov described GERB’s decision not to nominate a presidential candidate as a major political mistake. He argued that participating in the presidential election would have been an important exercise for consolidating the party ahead of the upcoming local elections. Tsvetanov also said that GERB is already losing a significant part of its municipal infrastructure. He expects lower voter turnout in the October 25 presidential elections, arguing that GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, which together received some 660,000 votes in the April parliamentary election, will not be able to mobilize their voters if they do not have their own presidential candidates. Tsvetanov added that he does not believe GERB leader Boyko Borissov can direct GERB voters toward any of the other presidential candidates.
