Alex Bregman back in Cubs lineup after suffering facial fractures from foul ball

Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman is back in the lineup despite s uffering multiple facial fractures after being hit by a foul ball last weekend. The Cubs listed Bregman as a designated hitter in the lineup for Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader with the Boston Red Sox. Bregman was standing near the on-deck circle during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds when Michael Busch hit a foul ball with a check swing. The ball bounced once off the turf and hit Bregman just below his left eye. According to the Cubs, Bregman suffered multiple facial fractures , but the team did not put him on the injured list with just days left in the regular season. Bregman had been aiming to get back in the lineup in enough time to be ready for the playoffs. The Cubs clinched their spot in the playoffs Thursday with a win over the Marlins at Wrigley Field.
