Volen Siderov Runs for President

Volen Siderov is a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections on October 25 in accordance with a decision by the Central Election Commission. He was put forward by a nomination committee alongside vice-presidential candidate Slavcho Velkov. Siderov was born on April 19, 1956, in Yambol. In 1974, Siderov graduated from the mathematics high school in Yambol. He holds a Master's degree in Theology. During the 1980s, he participated in the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour and the Independent Society for the Protection of Human Rights in Bulgaria. According to BTA archives, he served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Demokratsiya from 1990 to 1992. He has also written for the newspapers 168 Chasa and Monitor. He is also the Chair of the Ataka party. According to data from the National Assembly's website, Siderov served as a Member of Parliament from 2005 to 2017, sitting in the 40th, 41st, 42nd, and 43rd National Assemblies.
