The average contributory income for Bulgaria for July 2026 was EUR 1,015.10, while the average monthly contributory income for the country for the period from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026, was EUR 1,000.93, the National Social Security Institute announced on Friday. The data is used to calculate the amounts of newly granted pensions in August 2026, in accordance with the Social Insurance Code. Pension expenditure amounted to over EUR 8.8 billion as of August 2026, according to the National Social Security Institute data. Compared to the same period in 2025, pension spending increased by EUR 781.1 million (9.7%). The number of pensioners in August 2026 stood at 2,067,988, representing an increase of 10,036 (0.5%) compared to August 2025. The average monthly pension per pensioner in August 2026 was EUR 557.60.
