Siloam Springs, circa 1920: The KC Barber shop had all its chairs occupied. Arkansas barbershops, once called “tonsorial parlors,” evolved in the 19th century and became social hubs for men. Arkansas was one of the last states to require a license to be a barber, changing in 1937 after the perseverance of union lobbying.
