MBTA next week turns on bus cameras to catch motorists who block bus stops and lanes

The MBTA says that on Oct. 1, it will turn on bus-based cameras that can mean tickets for miscreant motorists who don't respect bus stops and bus lanes enough to stay out of them. To get motorists used to the idea that that can't just park and drive wherever the hell they want, the cameras will only generate warnings until Jan. 1 - after which the fining begins - between $25 and $125 per violation. According to the T: Violations will be automatically captured by cameras installed on MBTA buses, and a team of human evidence reviewers will review all incidents to confirm if a violation has occurred. Fines will be sent to vehicle owners (both private and commercial). In a statement, T General Manager Phil Eng said: When bus stops are blocked, people with disabilities, people with strollers, and anyone who has mobility challenges loses the option for level boarding.
