Man carjacked woman while escaping Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah, cops say

A police pursuit was underway after authorities said a man who was brought to Palmetto Hospital in Hialeah under a mental health evaluation order escaped after carjacking a woman in the parking lot Thursday morning. Police said the man had been brought to the hospital on West 68th Street by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office under a Baker Act order but fled shortly after arriving, Hialeah Police officials said. In the parking lot, the suspect approached a woman who was getting out of her vehicle and forced himself inside, police said. As he fled in the vehicle, he struck another vehicle, police said. Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed paramedics checking out the woman at the scene as authorities had a section of the parking lot closed off.
