Fuel prices in Romania reached new record highs, Digi24 reports. On Friday morning, the price of diesel crossed the psychological threshold of RON 11 (EUR 2.09) per litre, while petrol surpassed RON 10 (EUR 1.90) per litre. Local media note that this latest hike pushes fuel prices in the country to unprecedented levels and add that this will inevitably impact retail prices. The first price increases resulting from the rising cost of fuel will affect perishable foods, such as meat, milk, fruit, and vegetables, according to a report by Antena 1 TV station. The surge is also expected to trigger a new wave of price increases in the services sector. Romania is among the leading EU countries in terms of the rate of fuel price increases with an annual rise of over 26%, the Adevarul daily writes.
