Local leaders and candidates for office Wednesday addressed a massive charging error for city trash fees that impacted thousands of San Diegans, including hundreds and even thousands of dollars of overcharging. The errors were introduced as part of some county property-tax bills, but stemmed from a city mistake. “I have directed the Environmental Services Department to work urgently with the county to identify every affected property, correct the underlying data, and ensure property owners receive accurate bills and clear information about what they should do,” Mayor Todd Gloria said in a statement Wednesday. “I have also directed the department to determine how this happened and put safeguards in place to prevent it from happening again.
