Fort Lauderdale is officially having a September to remember, and it’s not because of the heat. More than 20 inches of rain has fallen at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport so far this month, making September 2026 the wettest September on record for Fort Lauderdale, according to preliminary data. The previous record was 18.40 inches, set in 1998. To put that into perspective, Fort Lauderdale typically picks up about 8.61 inches of rain during the entire month of September. We’ve already received more than twice that amount and there is still a full week left to go. So, what’s behind all the rain?
