Natalie Kan breaks HK 50m butterfly record twice

Hong Kong, China closed the final day of swimming at the Asian Games without a medal on Friday, but Natalie Kan ensured there was still a record to celebrate at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Kan broke the Hong Kong record twice in one day in the women’s 50 metres butterfly. She had set the previous mark of 26.34 seconds in April, then lowered it to 26.28 in the morning heats, where she also finished first in her heat. In the final, she improved again to 26.11 seconds, finishing fourth, just 0.14 seconds behind Japan’s bronze medallist. Teammate Yeung Hoi-ching also reached the final, placing tenth in 27.55 seconds. The national team’s Zhang Yufei and Wu Qingfeng took gold and silver, while Japan’s Rikako Ikee claimed bronze. In the men’s 50 metres breaststroke final, Hong Kong’s Adam Mak finished seventh in 27.77 seconds.
