Sega Nearly Canceled Sonic Before the 2020 Live-Action Movie

Throughout Sonic's 35-year history, the game franchise has had its ups and downs, and according to series's creative officer, Takashi Iizuka, in a recent interview with One More Game, the executives at Sega had been urging him to cancel the franchise entirely, before the launch of the 2020 Sonic live-action movie. There had been good times, and there had been bad times… during the worst times, I was told by the higher-ups that we should cancel the entire franchise. I had to fight within the organization to keep the franchise as long as possible...
