Indiana man charged after leading high-speed chase from Hammond to South Shore

An East Chicago, Indiana man is facing charges after he led Indiana State Police on a high-speed chase from Hammond to South Shore Tuesday, according to police. Austin Earl Williams, 37, was arrested on multiple charges, including burglary, robbery, strangulation, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and two counts of domestic battery stemming from two different cases, according to state police. That’s in addition to misdemeanors for interference with reporting of a crime and domestic battery. Additional charges are pending related to the chase, Indiana State Police said. Williams had been wanted on multiple felony charges when Indiana State Police attempted to pull him over after his license plate was pinged by a Flock license plate reader camera , troopers said. He then reportedly fled before crashing at the intersection of 77th Street and East End Avenue. Williams is set to appear for an extradition hearing in Cook County before being returned to Indiana, authorities said.
