Vineland data center fined $1.07 million for violating pollution law: Governor

The controversial data center in Vineland, Cumberland County, was fined $1.07 million for violating the Air Pollution Control Act, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced on Tuesday. The fine is the largest enforcement action against a data center in New Jersey’s history, Sherrill said in a press release. “Today, we are taking action against Data One in Vineland for violating New Jersey pollution law with a $1.07 million fine, the largest in state history,” Sherrill said. “I said from the beginning that we are going to hold data centers accountable, period.” The fine stems from a July 29 inspection that found 62 large natural-gas generators that were installed and operating at the data center site without proper New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection permits, Sherrill said.
