J.C. Newman Cigar Co. came to Tampa in 1954 and is now the last operational cigar factory in the nation. And the company isn’t finished making its mark on Ybor City. Later this year, J.C. Newman’s El Reloj District is slated to open, which includes a full-service restaurant, cigar lounge and a boutique hotel. El Reloj, Spanish for “clock,” is the name of the factory, topped with a clock tower. “Oddly enough, our part of Ybor City does not have a formal name or a neighborhood association,” Drew Newman, general counsel for J.C.
