Pedestrian struck, killed on Centre City Parkway in Escondido

A 47-year-old man was killed after he stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle in Escondido, authorities said Tuesday. The crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes of Centre City Parkway near Ninth Avenue, according to the Escondido Police Department. Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities said that drugs, alcohol and speed on the part of the driver were not considered factors in the collision. A bystander gave medical aid to the victim before he was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward, the department reported. Centre City Parkway was closed for about four hours while investigators combed the scene.
