Wonderland Pier's Ferris wheel will be torn down, officials say

A 144-foot staple of Ocean City will soon be torn down. The new owner of the former Gillian’s Wonderland Pier told NBC10 that the giant wheel has to come down due to safety reasons. The property developer — Eustace Mita — said over the years the Ferris wheel has deteriorated to the point — where the nuts and bolts are fused together, which means it can’t be disassembled and reassembled. The icon will be cut into pieces and lowered to the ground. Mita said he and his team are working with Ocean City leaders now to determine a demolition date.
