2 Legionnaires' cases linked to north suburban hotel's hot tub and pool, officials say

At least two Legionnaires’ cases have been linked to a pool and hot tub at a north suburban hotel, officials announced Monday. According to a public notice sent out in Evanston, two confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been linked to the Hilton Garden Inn North Shore/Evanston. The Illinois Department of Public Health tested water samples at the hotel in August and found Legionella bacteria in both the pool and hot tub areas. Both areas have been closed since Sept. 2 in response, city officials said. “Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of Legionella bacteria in the water system associated with the hot tub,” the notice stated. “The hotel has received guidance from IDPH on proper remediation of the affected areas. The spa will remain closed until the full remediation process is completed.
