Woman dies after crashing into boulder on I-280 median in San Mateo County

A woman driving on Interstate 280 in the unincorporated Hillsborough area of San Mateo County died Sunday morning after crashing into a boulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision happened at about 2 a.m. in the center median of the southbound lanes, just south of the Black Mountain Road/Hayne Road exit, CHP Officer Sophie Lu said. Lu said officers were called to the scene at that time but could not find any sign of a collision because it was too dark. The vehicle was found down a ditch in the center median at about 7:30 a.m. after more calls were received. The woman, who Lu said was in her 30s, was the only occupant of the black Volkswagen Tiguan.
