Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is having one of the best seasons in team history, and he could join some elite company this week. Crow-Armstrong is considered a strong favorite to win National League MVP honors thanks to his incredible season, and with six games left to go, he’s in prime position to do things no Cubs player has achieved in decades. We’ll start out with Wins Above Replacement (WAR), a statistic Crow-Armstrong is lapping the field in this season. He currently leads the league in WAR with a 9.6, the fifth-best among Cubs players all-time according to Baseball Reference. If he finishes the season, as expected, as the league leader in that category, he would be the first Cubs player to lead the majors in WAR since Greg Maddux did so in 1992. More astounding yet, he could be the first Cubs position player to lead the majors in that category since Ernie Banks did so with a 10.2 WAR in 1959.
