Pre-marked ballots at centre of suspected election fraud case

Swedish prosecutors are investigating suspected unlawful influence on voting in Dalarna, following reports that voters were driven to polling stations and given pre-marked ballot papers ahead of the recent elections, but is it against the law? Political scientist John Högström says handing out pre-marked ballots is not in itself illegal, as long as voters remain free to change the marking or choose another ballot. Högström says electoral fraud appears to be very rare in Sweden, with his research finding no clear cases in election appeals examined between 2010 and 2022.
