Boy, 8, dies days after he was struck by driver while riding e-scooter in Bridgeview

A young boy died on Thursday, nearly a week after he was struck by a driver while riding an e-scooter in a southwest suburb of Chicago. Jad Debiy, an 8-year-old boy from Bridgeview, was critically injured while riding an electric scooter around 5 p.m. on Sept. 11 when he was struck by the driver of a car near the intersection of 92nd Place and the Harlem Avenue frontage road, police said. He was taken to a local hospital after the crash, where he died six days later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. Debiy is one of several people who have been killed while riding e-scooters in the Chicago area this year, including a number of teenagers. On Aug. 3, 16-year-old Alex Blacio was killed when he was struck while riding an e-scooter by a semi-truck driver on busy Western Avenue in North Center.
