Firefighter suffers heat emergency, civilian burned while battling Terrell grass fire

A firefighter suffered a heat-related medical emergency and another person was burned battling a large brush fire near Terrell Thursday afternoon. The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department said they were called just before 3 p.m. to assist with a grass fire on the 7000 block of County Road 275 and arrived to find the fire “exhibiting extreme fire behavior, including 20-foot flame heights and tree torching.” The Terrell VFD said a firefighter suffered a heat-related emergency during the initial attack and was treated and released at the scene. While the firefighter was being given first aid, a civilian who attempted to fight the fire was found suffering from facial burns. The civilian was also treated and released at the scene. No other injuries were reported. The TVFD was joined by firefighters from the Terrell and Elmo fire departments and together they contained the fire to just seven acres.
