NJDOT identifies safety changes needed on Route 55 after reviewing crash history

The New Jersey Department of Transportation said it has identified several needed changes on Route 55 following an investigation into the history of crashes along the highway. NJDOT’s findings came after state legislators expressed concerns about the number of recent crashes and fatalities on Route 55. On Wednesday, Assemblyman Bill Moen shared a letter from NJDOT Chief of Staff Juan Carlos Nordelo outlining the findings of the department’s investigation. “This is a positive step forward in addressing this issue,” Moen wrote in a Facebook post. According to the letter, the department’s Division of Traffic Engineering and Bureau of Safety Improvement Programs developed the following action plan to enhance safety on the road: The department deployed variable messaging signs along Rt. 55 to advise drivers to use caution and to provide temporary wayfinding.
