Death investigation underway in the Hammocks after 1 taken to hospital

Video shows how a death investigation prompted a large police presence in a neighborhood in the Hammocks on Thursday. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said it responded to a medical call “with reports of an assault” in the area of 157th Avenue and Southwest 140th Street. One person was taken to a local hospital, but their condition was not revealed. Chopper 6 captured video of authorities investigating under a large white tent. Video shows what is presumed to be a body covered by a yellow tarp underneath the tent. Aerial footage also shows Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies collecting what appears to be a gun in a box. Neighboring Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School was locked down due to police activity in the area right before 10 a.m., the school district confirmed. Authorities have not confirmed the nature of the investigation, but said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would be leading it.
