Local fence company shares why they destroyed their own work in viral video

A social media showing a crew taking sledgehammers to a brand-new wooden fence went viral this week, and now we’re learning more about what happened to cause the destruction. Originally, the homeowner was accused of calling ICE on the Hispanic workers who had installed the fence, and that accusation accompanied the video as it went viral. However, Cesar Diaz of Diaz Fence Company said that was never the case. “This was a simple dispute between the owner and the company,” Diaz said. “This was a customer that, realistically, was trying to find ways to get a discount or have a free fence.” In an interview with Telemundo Chicago, Diaz said his crew returned to the property to take the fence back, since the homeowner refused to pay for the completed work. “This wasn’t a racial matter and this wasn’t an ICE matter,” he said. “ICE was never called.
