Belgium Works on Tightening its Strategy for Use of Artificial Intelligence

Belgium will introduce restrictions on the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) to exercise greater control, local media reported on Wednesday. The country adopted its first national strategy in this area four years ago, and authorities say circumstances have changed since then and must be reflected in the new rules. Restrictions will be introduced on AI-related public procurement, and measures will be implemented to prevent the creation of content without the consent of those affected. The measures will also include additional protection for minors. According to official data, 42% of Belgians use AI, while 34.5% of Belgian companies rely on the technology. The government says these figures place Belgium among the EU countries with widespread AI adoption.
