Bulgaria to Decide on Joining CoE Convention on Ukraine Claims When Financial and Institutional Implications Are Clear - Foreign Minister

Bulgaria will decide whether to join the Council of Europe Convention establishing an International Claims Commission for Ukraine for compensation from Russia once the financial and institutional implications of membership are clear, Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova said during question time in Parliament here on Friday. "There should be full clarity both on the financing and on the mechanism of operation and our institutions' ability to perform their duties adequately, so that we can proceed to a decision on whether to join the Convention," Petrova-Chamova said in response to a question from MP Nadezhda Yordanova of Democratic Bulgaria. Yordanova asked about the reasons for the change in Bulgaria's position, what she described as a persistent "empty chair" foreign policy, and the decision not to join the Council of Europe Convention establishing the International Claims Commission for Ukraine for compensation from Russia.
