Democratic Bulgaria Says Security Council Meeting Was Called to Prevent Presidential Security Council Meeting

Democratic Bulgaria Co-chair and MP Ivaylo Mirchev said Friday that the Security Council at the Council of Ministers had been called to prevent a Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS) meeting with the President. He said the threats facing Bulgaria were clear and had already been identified by Democratic Bulgaria (DB). Mirchev said the Security Council under the Prime Minister was not sufficient and that his party continues to insist that President Iliana Iotova convene a CCNS. Mirchev said Bulgaria recognized the need to protect itself against drones but had failed to address its withdrawal from what he described as NATO’s most important initiative on drone defence. Bulgaria had not changed its position on the matter, he said. He added that the country had also failed to identify which countries were technologically most advanced in drone defence and seek access to their technologies.
