Body camera video showing a Miami-Dade deputy fatally shooting an armed teen in Miami Beach back in July was released by the sheriff’s office on Tuesday. The footage shows the deadly July 24 encounter that killed 17-year-old Durrel Young. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Young and 18-year-old Valentino Berry were being investigated for firearms-related offenses by Homicide Street Violence Task Force detectives, who obtained a search warrant for the Miami Beach apartment where they were located. The sheriff’s Office’s Special Response Team was serving the warrant at the apartment in the 700 block of 81st Street when the shooting happened. The bodycam footage shows SRT members breaching the apartment door before a woman comes out of a back room with her hands up. Suddenly, Young opens a door armed with a gun and is shot by a deputy.
