The Boston City Council voted unanimously today to support striking workers at the Encore Boston casino just over the line in Everett. Councilor Henry Santana (at large), who introduced a pro-worker resolution , quoted Everett Mayor Robert Van Campen: "Encore wants to call themselves Encore Boston, but they don't want to pay Boston rates. Pay the people." "Your labor has value, and it's about time your contract reflects that value," Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata (East Boston, Charlestown, North End) told workers hwo had gathered in the council chambers. Workers belonging to UNITE Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25 are now in their second week of striking the casino.
