UK roads to be dominated by electric cars by 2034 as drivers avoid petrol and diesel

UK roads will feature mostly electric cars within years, according to new data, as drivers choose to ditch their petrol and diesel vehicles. Fresh research suggests that electric vehicles will make up 50.5 per cent of all vehicles on the roads by 2034. At present, 55 per cent of all vehicles are petrol, while diesel makes up just under 30 per cent. EVs account for around 4.8 per cent. These totals are expected to change dramatically over the coming years as electric car prices fall and millions of drivers transition away from petrol and diesel vehicles. This would beat out the totals of petrol (36.9 per cent) and diesel (26.2 per cent) vehicles, given the current trends with sales decreasing. Projections suggest that this will be surpassed even further three years later, when zero emission cars are expected to make up 50.5 per cent of all vehicles
