Members of the European Parliament and the National Assembly opened a discussion on Tuesday in Sofia focused on the current state and future of Bulgaria within the framework of the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI). The event was organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)’s ECI Group, with the support of the Economic and Social Council of Bulgaria (ESC) and the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The era of broad public consensus seen in the 1990s has come to an end and to preserve public trust in institutions, direct dialogue is increasingly essential, said European Comission Representation in Bulgaria head Yordanka Chobanova. She added that it is important to discuss how to raise the ECI's profile in Bulgaria and how young people can actively place their proposals and ideas on the political agenda.
