CE vows accountability over hospital lift failure

Chief Executive John Lee said on Tuesday those responsible for faulty lifts at Queen Mary Hospital’s new clinical block would be held accountable. The problems with the lifts had delayed the launch of clinical services at the new building. Speaking before the weekly Executive Council meeting, Lee said he had asked the Development Bureau to thoroughly investigate the matter and report back within a month. “We will pursue accountability, including contractor, subcontractors, engineering personnel and professionals,” he said. “And if there are government personnel involved, we will pursue their accountability as well. “We also need to identify where and whether the system has any inadequacies and rectify them.” Lee also said the problems with the lifts must be quickly addressed. He stressed the importance of medical services, saying the new clinical block must be opened up to enable the provision of services as soon as possible. Edited by Tony Sabine
