Still a construction zone, Capital One Arena ready for fans' return

Capital One Arena in downtown D.C. remains a construction zone, but owner Monumental Sports & Entertainment is ready to welcome basketball, hockey and music fans again beginning Friday. Monumental wants to make sure fans are aware of the ongoing work they’ll encounter when they arrive at the arena. “I think in a perfect world we would have snapped our fingers and made it happen all over the course of one summer, but that just wasn’t a reality,” Monumental President of Venues Jordan Silberman said. Fans will want to be ready for scaffolding and pedestrian protected walkways. There’s a new main entrance to the arena. It’s still on F Street, but it’s closer to the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station, and it will be bigger, wider and easier for fans to get through, Monumental says. But fans will have to navigate a lot of construction before getting to the door. “Folks are going to have to walk through the overhead protection to get into the building,” Silberman said.
