Bulgaria Men's Volleyball Team Topples European Champions and World No. 1 Poland in Sofia Thriller

The Bulgarian men's volleyball team triumphed in a 3-2 (20-25, 31-29, 25-23, 19-25, 20-18) thriller against the reigning European champion Poland in a Pool B meeting of the CEV Enel EuroVolley 2026 in Sofia on Wednesday. The Polish team is currently ranked first in the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Ranking, while Bulgaria stands at No. 9. This was the last match of the group stage with Bulgaria set to meet Germany in the round of 16. Poland entered the tie after 19 consecutive wins and with the top spot in Pool B already secured. The reigning European champions had a better start and were on course for a 2-0 lead but the Bulgarians managed to stage a comeback trailing 20-25 4-10. In the tiebreak the Polish players had a match point at 15-14 before their opponents converted their fifth chance to close out the match.
