Battle of Britain memorial could close as trustees forced to dig into reserves amid soaring costs

The future of the Battle of Britain memorial has been cast into doubt as trustees have warned rising costs are putting the site at risk of closure. The national memorial at Capel-le-Ferne in Kent, which honours the aircrew who fought in the Battle of Britain, receives no direct funding from the Government. Wing Commander Ian Woodhouse, the memorial's honorary secretary, said securing adequate funding had become an "increasing concern" despite the site's national significance, the BBC reports. Trustees say rising day-to-day costs, combined with limited funding opportunities, are placing growing strain on the charity that runs the site. Trustees say they have already introduced measures, including admission charges and cost-cutting, but continue to draw on reserves as expenses rise.
