NC auditor reviews lottery as sales surge; education aid remains flat

The North Carolina auditor is taking a hard look at the North Carolina Education Lottery. Last week, the auditor released a performance audit rather than the typical audit, which is performed yearly. Auditor Dave Boliek says from 2023 to 2025 the Education Lottery’s gross sales increased from $4.3 billion to $6.6 billion. But he says the contribution to public education remained flat. Boliek says his next steps are to look at what the Education Lottery funds are used for and how they need to be accounted for.
