Ivan Hristanov Announces Demographic Scientist as Running Mate in Presidential Race

Musicians, public figures and academics are among the founders of the Nomination Committee supporting the candidacies of former caretaker agriculture minister Ivan Hristanov and Bulgarian Academy of Sciences scientist Assoc. Prof. Stoyanka Cherkezova for president and vice president. The vice-presidential candidate and some members of the Committee were announced at the Photojournalists' Club in Sofia on September 13. The Nomination Committee is chaired by rock musician Deniz Rizov, with members including Prof. Todor Todorov, Assoc. Prof. Yosif Yosifov, musician Vasil Gyurov, and others, Hristanov said. The presidential candidate pointed out that the biggest threat for Bulgaria is the demographic crisis. Older people in Bulgaria pass away much earlier than those in European countries, he said.
