In a compendium of films charting style over substance, Anna Biller ’s first film in ten years would make for an all-encompassing starting point. Pilfered from ’60s Technicolor slashers and Euro Grand Guignol C-pictures, “ The Face Of Horror ” is so utterly stripped of storytelling merit that the entire project amounts to a filmed Medieval fair, only with better costumes. Nominally based on a Japanese Kabuki play, its garbled narrative mostly serves as an excuse to mount a sensational sartorial spectacle.
