According to Burger King’s latest franchise disclosure document (FDD), the fast-food restaurant chain operated 6,650 locations across the United States at the end of fiscal year 2025, a net loss of 51 stores compared with the 6,701 it operated at the start of the year. Of those 6,650 locations, 5,518 are franchised and 1,132 are company-owned. Let’s take a closer look at where Burger King opened and closed locations last year. Burger King opened locations in these states The burger chain opened 87 new U.S. locations in 2025, including 83 that are franchised and four that are company-owned. However, 48 of those franchised locations were existing company-owned restaurants sold back to new franchise operators, not new store builds. That means Burger King opened 39 new restaurants in 2025.
