Waterspout confirmed near Braidwood power plant this week

The National Weather Service has confirmed a waterspout touched down near the Braidwood nuclear power plant on Thursday afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, conditions were conducive to the formation of funnel clouds on Thursday afternoon, and officials have confirmed at least one touchdown related to that weather pattern. That touchdown occurred in the cooling pond near the Braidwood plant, according to officials. The waterspout was estimated to be in the water for approximately one-third of a mile, and reached an estimated width of approximately 10 yards. Officials say it does not appear the waterspout caused any damage, and it did not move over land.
