West Loop tower that will bring neighborhood's first Aldi breaks ground

West Loop is a step closer to getting its first Aldi, as the formerly industrial neighborhood continues to grow its population. Chicago-based Mavrek Development was joined by project partners Wednesday to break ground on Julep West Loop, a 25-story high-rise at 1000 W. Jackson Blvd. that will be anchored by a 22,000-square-foot Aldi . The project includes land at 1000-24 W. Jackson Blvd., 230-38 S. Morgan and 1015-27 W. Adams streets. Julep has been more than four years in the making, according to Mavrek. The Chicago Plan Commission approved the development in July 2024, and the City Council approved it later that year.
