After Central Japan was hit by heavy torrential rain overnight, The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued its highest-level flood warning (Level 5) for the Shonai River, which runs through Gifu and Aichi prefectures, according to a statement from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry's Crisis Centre published Wednesday. The Ministry recommends that Bulgarian citizens residing in or planning to travel to Japan strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and regularly monitor the Japan Meteorological Agency's website. Local authorities have urged residents of the Chikusa, Moriyama and Meito areas in Nagoya city to take immediate action to ensure their safety. The meteorological agency advises people to exercise particular caution as heavy rainfall is expected to continue for another week across western to northeastern Japan, including Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa, as well as Osaka and Hyogo in western Japan, the Ministry warned.
