DVSA offers record number of driving tests as thousands of learners obtain licences

The DVSA has conducted a record two million driving tests over the last 12 months, as the organisation attempts to cut down on waiting times for learners. Newly released data from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) notes that more than 2.13 million practical driving tests were conducted in the 12 months to August 2026. This is the highest rolling 12-month figure on record, with over 906,000 driving tests between April and August 2026 - a jump of 15.5 per cent on last year. The DVSA has also been working to make a greater number of tests available for learner drivers to ease the backlog and get more motorists on the road.
